" Superstitious!"
That will be the sceptic's verdict on you if you are seen reading this book. There is a class, the so tailed
educated class, of men whose attitude towards astrology is one of studied
contempt. They deny that there is any truth in astrology and regard it as
a humbug. That can only be the outcome of ignorance and prejudice.
There is no use arguing with those "who have eyes yet see not, and ears
yet hear not". But to those who are open to conviction,
this book itself is my unflinching answer.
Let them put the principles explained herein to
a thoroughly searching examination, and they will readily
see for themselves that far from being an exploded superstition, astrology is as
good a science as medicine, law, or logic.
There have been many attempts made to discover a
profitable system for successful speculation on the Turf. There are
hundreds of books published and offered as the so called
"systems," and these are easily devoured by the gullible punter in his
greed for gold. But they have all fallen short of expectations.
Within the two covers of this book, I have made
one more attempt to place turf speculation on a surer footing and I claim that I have reduced the science of finding
winners to an exact art, with what success I shall leave it to the discriminate
reader to judge.
In the preparation of the book, I have drawn
freely on the existing literature on the subject. The names of authors
consulted have been mentioned in the text where extracts from their works
occur. My thanks, however, are specially due to Sepharial and Mr. Vivian
E. Robson, B.Sc, from whose excellent works I have derived a good deal of
assistance. My thanks are also due to Mr. H. T.
Anklesaria, the quiet and unassuming proprietor of the
Fort Printing Press, for undertaking and rushing forward
through the press the publication of this book, which will not have seen the
light of day but for his help.
And last, but not the least, I must mention his energetic
lieutenant, Mr. A. F. de Sousa, who cheerfully performed the unpleasant task of
correcting the proofs.
R. L. SUTARIA.
